May 2006
To whom it may concern:
Well, keeping this news page updated with any regularity has obviously been a complete washout, but I'm going to try yet again to maintain a monthly
schedule. Here's what has been going on since last time:
NEW RELEASES AVAILABLE:
- The irr. app. (ext.)/at jennie richie collaborative 3" CDR "Night Wearing Feathers" was released last month, but a few copies may still be available
from Psychform. The release features hand-made packaging designed and created by Stan Reed, and is limited to 200
copies.
- "The Sleeping Moustache", a collaboration between Jim Haynes, R. K. Faulhaber, Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson, Steven Stapleton and myself was released by The Helen Scarsdale Agency at the beginning of this month, and features hand-printed inserts designed and
executed by Jim Haynes. Visual works from all 5 contributors are included in the design.
RECENT SHOWS:
- On March 3rd I had the great privilege of performing alongside Steven Stapleton, Colin Potter, Andrew Liles, Joolie Wood, Freida Abtan and Maja
Elliott as part of the first Scribble event in Preston. Thanks to Steve for inviting me to participate and to all of my fellow performers, with
particular thanks to the mighty Colin Potter for his hospitality, boundless generosity and invaluable technical assistance. Thanks are also due to
Nigel Ince for photographing, recording and catering services, and to Paul Bradley, Jonathan Coleclough, Darren Tate and "Crooked Stylus" Darius
for their kindness.
- From May 5th to May 8th I was fortunate enough to attend the Chantier Music Festival in Paris and absorb rare and wonderful performances by Danielle
Dax, Shock Headed Peters, Evil Twin, Arkkon, Amal Gamal Ensemble, Simon Finn and many others. The crowning glory of this event was the great
pleasure of not only witnessing but contributing to the first full-length solo show by a musician I have long admired: Joolie Wood was kind enough to invite
me to add my unworthy twiddling to a beautiful new song called "Melt with the Snow" at the finale of her set. Many thanks to Joolie for this memorable
opportunity, and for her friendship over the past decade.
- As if this weren't enough, I was also given the opportunity to perform as one of the pre-show transit riders gathered for Faun Fables' "Transit
Rider" CD release show on May 26th. Thanks to Dawn for the invitation, to the audience for their lively response, and to Nils, Greg, Jesse, Jen,
John, Andy and the other Dawn for their assistance and/or support. If the recording turned out well, I'll be putting it up for public ridicule on
the irr. MySpace page.
Since I've brought it up, I suppose that I should announce that there is now an irr. app. (ext.) page on MySpace.
I have mixed feeling about the whole MySpace phenomenon, but the easy opportunity to get some audio samples up on the internet was enough to convince me to
flush a little more of my life down the great virtual space toilet.
UPCOMING SHOWS:
- On June 16th and 17th I will be participating in the first Nurse With Wound performances in two decades, and the first ever to be staged in North
America. Tickets are still available from the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. Thrills and chills will
abound (and, very likely, some spills as well), so do your immortal soul a favour and be there.
- On June 20th, the second Scribble event will be staged in Portland at Sabala's Mt. Tabor. The exact line-up of
Scribble for this event is not yet clear, but Steven Stapleton, Colin Potter, Andrew Liles and myself are bound to be loitering somewhere in
the vicinity of some audio equipment at some point during the evening. Solo performances by Colin Potter and Andrew Liles will also be greased up
and ready to tickle their way into your ear-holes, as well as sets by Green Milk From the Planet Orange and Orbit Service.
- "Cosmic Superimposition" has been delayed yet again due to the above, but should finally be pressed and available in early July.
MORE ART FOR SALE:
The piece "Victims of the Defect" is now being offered for sale through this site. The price of this piece is $600 (includes shipping in the U.S. .
overseas please contact me first). This charcoal drawing has already been framed and includes full archival treatment, triple matting, and
UV-screening plexiglas. The plexiglas has sustained a few scratches. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
January 2006
A very happy new year to everyone. My plan to keep this news page updated on a monthly basis has not quite worked out, but I'll make another attempt to keep
on schedule throughout the current year. Most of the news I would have posted last month has changed anyway, so it's just as well that I didn't. My
facility for flimsy rationalisation remains unimpaired, regardless of
how other vital skills might be dwindling.
NEW RELEASES AVAILABLE:
- 'Perekluchenie' is now available from
Beta Lactam Ring Records in both a
new-fangled
mini-gatefold CD edition and an old-timey single pocket vinyl edition.
A few
copies of both are also still available directly from me, and I'll be
sure
to seal your package with a kiss. CDs are $14 each including postage
within
the states, or $16 overseas including airmail; vinyl copies are $16
U.S./$18
overseas. See the August entry for ordering procedure on these and
previous
releases, and e-mail me for more particulars.
- The ffwd mag#3 DVD + magazine is also now
available,
featuring the new irr track "Org-tierchen" on the DVD (combined with a
linked pair of stunning animations by Ericailcane and Blu
(consecutively))
and four of my photos in the magazine. This release is limited to 500
copies, and available for .15.00 through the ffwd website.
SHOWS:
I have decided not to organise any new irr. app. (ext.) live
shows at
present, but some related performance events are in the works.
- In June I will be participating in the three Nurse With Wound shows being staged
in
San Francisco.
- A collaborative show with NF Orchest (or some
line-up
involving my friends Jim Kaiser and Andy Way from NF Orchest/French
Radio/Petit Mal/Maleficia) will also possibly take place in June.
- A Spring tour in collaboration with Spoonbender 1.1.1 is under discussion.
- A few different festival appearances might be taking place
later in the year, but no definite information for any of them is
available
as of yet.
None of
these events are fully confirmed, and details will be posted as they
materialise.
CANCELLED SHOWS:
- The 2nd collaborative performance between myself and
Jim
Haynes, scheduled to take place at the Hemlock Tavern on January 25th
as
part of the Other Minds 'Brink' series, has been cancelled. Neither the
venue nor the organisers bothered to announce the performance in the
first
place, so it is unlikely that announcing its cancellation here is
actually
necessary. I'm going to do it anyway. Both Jim and I very much enjoyed
our
first collaborative effort, and so another one will inevitably occur at
another time and place.
- A second series of Salt Marie Celeste
performances
that was being arranged for Barcelona in February has also been dropped
due
to problems with the venue - I won't say 'cancelled', since the shows
had
never been absolutely confirmed. Contrary to the announcements
circulating
on the internet, the line-up for the show would have been the same as
last
year's Vienna performances: Stapleton/Rogerson/Potter/Liles/Waldron -
and
both Steve and myself remain commited to my participation in future
Nurse/SMC events.
ART FOR SALE:
In the hopes of raising some much-needed funds, I am
offering
the charcoal drawing 'Expanding in Conversation' (used in the booklet
for
the first irr. CD "An Uncertain Animal...") for sale through this
site.
Click on the thumbnail for a better look. The price of the drawing is
$550,
which includes postage within the U.S (for overseas costs, please
contact
me). I'm sure this will seem a bit steep to many of you, but letting
original pieces go for smaller amounts has proved to be very unhelpful.
The
drawing is already framed with full archival treatment,
includingacid-free
double matting (black core on top), archival backing and UV-screening
plexiglas. Total framed size: 19 1/4" x 12". Note: as a result of a
couple
rough journeys back and forth from exhibits, the frame has sustained
some
finish damage in the lower left hand corner, and a few minor scratches
elsewhere. I'll be touching this up as best as I can, but some flaws
will
doubtless still be visible on close inspection. Also: copies of the
posters
mentioned in the previous update are still in stock.
COLLABORATIVE PROJECT:
The big collaborative project mentioned in
earlier
updates is now kicking into high gear. Many submissions have been
received,
with more still on the way. Click here to see the full list of
confirmed and
awaited participants. This project will continue to be developed
throughout
2006, and a progress report will be posted on a monthly basis.
WHATS NEXT:
- "Cosmic Superimposition", a self-released reworking of the
'Ozeanische
Gefühle' sources, should be available in March.
- "The Sleeping Moustache"
(Faulhaber/Haynes/Sigmarsson/Stapleton/Waldron
collaborative release) is scheduled for release on
The Helen Scarsdale Agency in April.
- "Radiant Black Future", the last of the lost irr. releases from the
previous millennium, will finally materialise on Beta Lactam Ring later
in
the year.
- A 20 minute irr. app. (ext.)/at jennie richie collabortive track has
been
completed, and should be made available through Psychform. No details are
available yet.
- Nearing completion: the split release with Panicsville and the free
irr.
download album to be hosted by Zerga.
- A revision of the gallery section of this site will be undertaken in
February.
